Riding through the city and heading into the rainforest with such anticipation of arriving at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, as its website showed such wonderfulness. Tired from all-day traveling, we arrived close to mid-night and front desk whisked us through check-in. Hearing the animal sounds of the rainforest was so exciting and gave such tranquility. The resort is packed with amenities and houses a Clarins spa and a boutique. Food was very good and prices very fair. The only fault I found was the room furniture needs updating....furniture was worn and walls need some good artwork to bring color and life. Beds were very comfortable and I slept so good. Bathroom was huge and updated with comforts. The private balcony was a little tight with a bistro table and two chairs, PLUS a hammock that stretched the length of it, but wow, it was so comfortable. The view of the Chagres River from the room was an incredible view and it took away all that needed updated in the room. To watch the sunrise over the river is incredible and combined with nature sounds, it is its own slice of the best. The resort is secluded. There is no nearby shopping or restaurants. It is an hour from the Panama City airport and a little over an hour from the Colon pier (we were going on a cruise) so unless you go to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort to indulge yourself in relaxation with nature and the rainforest (and what a great reason), it will eat up a lot of time traveling to points of interests. The staff was professional, knew what they were doing and very helpful. I will go back to the resort, but will plan it differently so there is ample time for everything

While recently in Panama, we actually switched from our hotel in Playa Blanca to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, and we wish we had done it sooner. However, we stayed two nights at GRR, and it saved our Panama trip. First of all, location is perfect, you are not too far away from the sights of Panama City, and the airport, and you are right there off the Panama Canal. The resort is on the Gangres River, which runs into Gatun Lake, located at the centre of the canal. As you approach the resort you will go through Gamboa, don;t be misled, this is not a town at all, it is a row of early 20th century homes built by the Americans to house their workers building the canal, and the resort is located on what was their golf course. It is neat though, and it seems that there are people living in some of the homes, looked like some students.

The resort grounds are stunning, peaceful, quiet and lush. It was certainly a whole new perspective of Panama, after Playa Blanca. We were on the all-inclusive plan, and the food was awesome, first night we had buffet, which was not huge, but had something for everyone, and the food was fresh and tasty. Second night we were given menus to order off of, I believe occupancy was low, and hubby had beef tenderloin and i had lasagne. Both dishes were excellent, and there was plenty of food. Desserts as well were great.
